Fashionably late, we have finally opened the cyberspatial doors to our site. You can expect a lot of cool changes in the near future, but I wanted to go ahead and open the site rather than delay the birth of a beautiful thing. So bear with us in case those changes cause the site to blow up.

Welcome back to the Fall semester of 2008.

Over the summer, we sent an email out to our members stating that we would not be meeting regularly.  Starting next Wednesday, we will begin meeting regularly again at 7:00pm, which will be an informational meeting but if you want to bring a poem you can (bring copies).

We will probably alternate between Wednesdays and Saturdays, depending on who can make what days.  Until we get a room, the location will be somewhere abouts Little Five Points so you’ll need to get on our mailing list for the exact location.  And getting a room will be dependent upon availability, as we lost our charter back in May and can’t get it back yet.

We will be regularly putting up flyers/posters around campus this semester, so if you would like to help in design and/or putting them up, just shoot as an email

(PS–I am still working on the forums but have got most of the basic problems out of the way. If any of you are good with .css and web design and feel like volunteering for the task, that would help me greatly as I am a total n00b when it comes to that.)

1. Following you will find our meeting schedule for the rest of the semester (all meetings are at 7pm); if you ever get lost, call me (you will need to be on the mailing list to get my number).  Meetings are open to everyone!

2. Also, please note that on Friday, December 5, we will hold a reading of our members’ poetry (who must have attended at least one meeting this semester).  However, anyone may attend, so bring everyone you know!

3. If no one attends this Saturday’s meeting, the remaining Saturday meetings for the semester will be canceled.

4. If you can’t attend meetings, you can still have your poem workshopped at our online forum!

Hi all,

Our final meeting will be on Wednesday, December 3 at 7pm in Room 460 of the University Center. Dr. Beth Gylys, our adviser, will be moderating, and we will have an informational Q&A session for those curious about the poetry program, writing or other things. Feel free to bring a poem, even if it is your first meeting!

We will also hold a reading on Friday, December 5 at 7pm in the Lucerne Suite, which is on the 2nd floor of the Student Center. Any who have attended at least one meeting this semester may read their poems.

Hi everybody.  I hope your holidays went well.  Our first meeting will be next Wednesday at 7pm in the 2nd floor of Library North in one of the study rooms.  Because it is the first meeting, it will be an informational meeting where we will welcome newcomers and discuss our plans for the semester.  We will try to get the room just to the left of the “Grande Staircase” but we may have to get another one if someone is using it, in which case you should look around for us.  We will post a flyer on the window/door of the room we are in.  I will email everyone tonight and will include my phone number in case you need to call.  I will apply for a room reservation ASAP and will email you all when I learn where we will be for the remainder of the semester.

Vona Groarke is the author of four poetry collections and teaches at the Centre for New Writing at the University of Manchester in Britain and at Wake Forest University. She has won prizes for her work including the Brendan Behan Memorial Award, the Hennessy Award, the Michael Hartnett Award and the Strokestown International Poetry Award. She will be giving a reading of her work on April 1st at 7:30pm in the lobby of the Rialto Center for the Arts. The event is sponsored by CENCIA, the Center for Collaborative and International Arts, at Georgia State University. The event is free to all students, staff and faculty of GSU and the community.

Demetrio Bautista Lazo is a weaver, an environmentalist, a teacher, and a community activist from the Zapotec community in Teotitlan, Oaxaca, Mexico. His mastery of natural dyes has earned him an international reputation for craftsmanship and artisanry. Mr. Lazo’s work will be on exhibit at the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University from April 2nd through April 8th with an opening reception April 2nd from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Please join us for this rare opportunity to experience a rich tradition of Mexican textiles! The opening reception on April 2nd and the exhibition are free and open to the public.
